We have been having CRAZY weather the last week or so. Down 3 blog entries you see the pictures from last time it snowed this March. Well, it happened again this week.
The "spring pictures" from above were taken on March 26th. My kids were outside with no sweaters. The "winter pictures" were literally taken the next day on March 27th. And this was slightly more than just a skiff of snow.
It melted by about noon the following day. But we woke up this morning (March 29th) to snow on the ground again. I suppose March is going out like a lion!
Life with kids is ALWAYS an adventure. And I have 3 who are only 3 years apart. (yes, we're crazy.) This is my place to capture the craziness in all it's glory, because childhood only happens once. (thank goodness!)

First Time Princess
My little princess is really not usually much of a princess. She'd rather play with cars and trains than dolls and crowns. But being my only girl I still buy her girly stuff hoping that someday she'll be a princess. But every time I have tried to put the crown on her and convince her that being a princess is cool she gives me a very definitive "no mom!"
This day though she found her princess stuff and put it on. All by herself. with no coaxing from me.
I had to take a picture quick because about 20 seconds later she had already taken it off and was playing with cars again.

All mothers are insomniacs, and not by choice
I know this looks like a face that could do no wrong but lately he is driving me CRAZY!
The past two weeks or so he has decided that the hours from 3:30 am to 6:30 am are for playing. Not sleeping, playing.
So at first I tried the entire 3 hours to get him to go back to sleep. Then I decided to try just laying him in my bed and letting him play while I go back to sleep. But he is getting very wiggly and spends the whole time pulling my hair or playing with my face.
So the night before last I pulled Adam out of the room they share and put the sleeping Adam in my bed so I could put him in his bed in his room and close the door while he cried it out. Well, he cried for an hour (no exaggeration!) after which he finally fell asleep and then promptly woke up 20 minutes later to start crying again.
To add insult to injury he has also started taking shorter and shorter naps and pretty much cries anytime I am not holding him. I thought maybe he was teething so I gave him tylenol and rubbed his gums with teething gel a few times but 2 weeks later and no teeth breaking through and no end in sight of the crying. And I'm pretty much at my wits end.
I had a friend recommend giving him benadryl to make his sleepy. Can I do that and still be a good mom??????

Think Spring
The kids are DYING for it to be summer. Adam has been asking me for weeks how to get the sun out to melt to snow. So today there was no snow and he begged to go outside. I said sure as long as you wear a sweater (since it was only about 40 degrees out.) I thought it would last about 20 minutes. They played outside for 4 hours. 4 HOURS!!! I kept asking them if they wanted to come in and warm up for a few minutes but they kept saying no. They did at one point come in and get gloves on for their little popsicle hands. I had to practically drag them in kicking and screaming to get ready for bed. Just goes to show, kids get spring fever, too.
So imagine their utter disappointment to wake up this morning to this....
It was barely a skiff of snow but it may as well been a raging blizzard for as devastated as my kids were. I assured them that spring would be here very soon.
And then I began to think about what the warm weather means.....and I was reminded that I'll spend the summer hearing "Mom, we'll be taking our meals outside today, thanks."
Plus the never-ending pile of sand on the kitchen floor as they tromp in and out from the sandbox.
I must admit I'm looking forward to spring, too. But at least when the snow covered the ground you couldn't see any of my weeds....

Top O' the Morning
It's St. Patrick's Day so I made Green Eggs and Ham and green muffins for breakfast. Adam began to throw his normal fit about trying new foods. (only because it was all green. it's not like he hasn't eaten eggs or muffins before.) But the planets must have aligned just right this morning or it was the Green Day Angels smiling down on me or something because against all odds he tried the food anyway!!!! (If you knew Adam you would know that this is a true miracle!!!!) As he ate it he kept saying "I have never tried this before. It's so good."
Later he was asking me to tell him again what day it was. We have been working on days of the week so I told him that it was Monday AND St. Patrick's Day. He said "Well actually (yes my 3 year old says actually) it can only be one day. So it's not Monday. Just Fat Mattress Day." I said it's what day? "Just one day. Not Monday. Just Fat Mattress Day." I said "St. Patrick's Day?" to which he replied "Yes, Fat Mattress Day." It's funny how kids interpret things.
